[Identified] We are sorry to inform you that due to unforeseen technical issues Bluepebble will not be ready to return to service on Wednesday 14th August as planned. The return to service will be delayed by one week, i.e. not until after Tuesday 20th August. Users will be contacted this Friday to confirm the date that the BluePebble system will be returned to service Please be assured we are working as hard as we can to get the system restored. Thank you for your patience

Essential network maintenance: Brief interruptions to services between 5pm and 8pm on 19 August 2024

Description

On Monday, August 19, between 5 pm and 8 pm, essential network maintenance will take place to conduct a failover test following the recent reconfiguration of our core network. While every effort has been made to ensure there is minimal impact to services, we anticipate that during this change there will be two small interruptions to the network traffic (affecting both wired and wireless) when we remove and reconnect, and services may experience a very brief interruption. These interruptions will happen around 5.30 pm and 7.15 pm. These interruptions to the network will impact access to services hosted on campus and access from campus to online services, including some telephony. We are engaging with key service owners to help mitigate any impact. The network should recover without manual intervention, but IT staff will be on standby during the work to monitor key services and act if required. As always, with changes like this, the network will be classed as ‘at-risk’ for the duration of the work. BluePebble - Downtime schedule for Servicing 24th July

Description

The majority of BluePebble nodes will be down from 24th July until 14th August 2024. From 3pm on the 24th July - jobs running at that time will need to be stopped to allow the cluster to be brought down safely before power interruption. The downtime schedule has been brought forward due to scheduled power works in the Physics Building where the BluePebble system is hosted.

[Investigating] Issues have been reported by multiple users working from home and connected to the UoB VPN (F5 Big IP Edge client) whereby connections are dropping out - also affecting many on-campus services

Upcoming changes to Apple IDs from 26 July

Description

We are changing how we manage our Apple devices to allow future service improvements. To help us do this, we need to move to University-managed Apple IDs. If you have a personal Apple ID that uses a University email address, you will need to change it to a personal one. From 26 July, Apple will contact those with an Apple ID using an @bristol.ac.uk address and inform them to change it to a personal email address within 60 days. [Identified] macOS Sonoma has been tested, and we are now releasing updates to devices. There is a known issue with Sonoma: Clean installs of macOS 14 (Sonoma) on University managed new devices or where a University managed device has been wiped may have issues with connecting to F5 VPN. Fix: If you have installed F5 Access from Self-Service and the menu item doesn't appear, please run the following from Self-Service - F5 Access Fix. Please note this issue does not affect those upgrading from a previous macOS version to Sonoma.
