Essential network maintenance is needed to resolve a known issue. Update of the BIG-IP Edge Client (VPN access) from 27 June

Description

Starting from Thursday, 27 June, we will enforce a VPN client update for all Windows users. Anyone connecting to the UoB network with an outdated BIG-IP Edge Client will have their client automatically updated upon connection. This update will address existing security vulnerabilities in some versions of the UoB VPN client and help us maintain our security standards moving forward. Thank you for your cooperation. IT Services will be replacing its current self-service platform with a new cutting-edge IT self-service tool designed to enhance engagement and support for staff and students. This launch heralds the beginning of a comprehensive series of planned developments to enhance IT services over the upcoming years. The new IT Self-service platform, Halo, will be launched on 18 June 2024 at 8am, replacing the current tool, Ivanti. The IT self-service site, bristol.ac.uk/it-support, will be closed at 5.15 pm on Monday 17 June and will reopen at 8.00 am on Tuesday 18 June. [Investigating] Power cuts have been reported in the BS1 area. A number of UoB buildings are suffering from network connection issues as a result. Current confirmed affected locations are: Augustines Courtyard Howard House National Grid are in the process of investigating and have indicated an estimated restoration time of 3pm today (14/06/2024)

[Monitoring] Power and networks have now been restored at Augustines Courtyard. There is still an issue at Howard House affecting the 1st floor comms room which is likely to have a knock-on effect to the wired/wireless for the Ground, 1st & 2nd floors. This issue has been raised with Estates to check power - IT Networks team are still waiting for power to return in the comms room.

Xerte upgrade rescheduled : 12th June

Description

We experienced an issue during yesterday's Xerte upgrade which resulted in the service being unavailable temporarily We have identified the cause of the issue and have rolled back to the previous version and Xerte is now live. We will upgrade Xerte with the latest version on Wednesday 12th June to fix this issue. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the downtime.

[Identified] A fibre break has been identified at Badock Hall which means there are no wired/wireless connections available currently for Units 1, 2, 3 and 4. No workaround available. Third-party fibre contractors have been engaged and will attend but this will not be until next week.

[Identified] 3rd party fibre contractors have been able to repair the cable issues affecting blocks 2, 3 & 4 at Badock Hall and they are now back online. They will return on Friday to fix the issues affecting block 1.

[Investigating] There has been an issue identified with the analogue phones at Oakfield House which means that they cannot currently receive incoming or make outgoing phone calls. Those numbers with voicemail will still receive the voicemail messages. No issues with Openscape or Teams calls from same location. A third-party contractor will be onsite tomorrow at 9am to meet the deployment team from Unified Comms in an effort to resolve the issue.

T4 website content management system upgrade: 8th - 22nd May

Description

The University is upgrading its website content management system T4 (Terminalfour) to the latest version to make it more secure and improve functionality. We now have a confirmed two-week window of T4 downtime to allow migration of content to the new upgraded version: Wednesday 8 May to Tuesday 21 May 2024. During the downtime the live website will remain online, but T4 will not be accessible and you will not be able to add new content or make changes to any content. Other platforms are not affected and you can use them as normal: Blackboard SharePoint Social media Pure CampusPress (Bristol blogs) Job adverts Any pending or draft content you save in T4 before the downtime starts will be available to continue working on in the new version. You will not be able to publish anything during the downtime. The Digital Experience team will only support business-critical content updates during the downtime. If you have any business-critical content that must be published during this time, please contact web-editor@bristol.ac.uk
