Work is required to support the departmental filestore, also known as the GPFS service. This is scheduled to take place between 1 pm and 3 pm on Wednesday 8 May 2024. [Investigating] There is a power outage causing IT issues across multiple locations on campus currently. This is being investigated by IT Services & Campus Estates team. Current known affected buildings include Ada Lovelace, MVB and Ivy Gate. Some hospitals with a UoB network in them may also be affected. Once power is restored some IT services will still need to carry out checks at a local level before services come back online.

[Investigating] UoB Campus Division have reported that the power blips being experienced are believed to be the result of a transformer at the Bristol Royal Infirmary which has blown up. While National Grid and their contractors are working to switch the power ON it indirectly affects all local networks. This situation is outside of the control of UoB but the situation will continue to be monitored.

[Identified] There are currently still known issues affecting Ada Lovelace Building, Fry Building, MVB, 67 St Michaels Hill and Drama. IT Services are still working with UoB Campus Division on this matter.

Description

Essential network maintenance will take place on Thursday, 2 May, from 5.30 pm to 9.00 pm. During this period, there will be a break to the network on two occasions, each lasting 30 minutes. During these two periods, staff and students on campus will be unable to connect to services, and those off campus will be unable to access services hosted on-site. This will also impact services hosted on site that require internet access to function. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. Staff and PGR compliance checking for macOS devices from 17 April

From 17 April, the University will check compliance of all macOS devices of main staff and postgraduate research students. Compliance will be applied to groups over several days to allow IT Services to manage any issues that may arise. Main staff and PGRs will need to register personally owned macOS devices following the guidance: bristol.ac.uk/it-services/personal-mac . [Investigating] Microsoft Outlook Issue: Some users may be unable to download attachments from Outlook on the web While we’re focused on remediation, users may sign out and back into Outlook on the web to temporarily mitigate the impact. Current status: Development of the fix continues and once complete, we'll deploy it to our internal testing environment and validate that it resolves this issue without further complications. Root cause: A recent update, intended to improve the reliability of Outlook on the web, contains a code configuration issue that's causing long running sessions and may prevent attachment downloads.

Wireless Network Maintenance: Early April 2024 in WMB and Queens Building

Description

We are undertaking essential wireless equipment upgrades in various locations. There may be a brief interruption to network connectivity in its vicinity for devices connected to Wi-Fi. We anticipate disruption of around 15 minutes but if you are having wireless connection issues after 30 minutes simply switch your Wi-Fi off and back on again to reconnect to the campus Wi-Fi network. The network should recover and reconverge without manual intervention, but IT staff will be on standby during the work to monitor key services and act if required. Updates will be provided on the Interim Wi-Fi Project page. In each building, the essential work is scheduled as follows: • Wills Memorial Building - from Weds 3 April (3 days) • Queens Building - from Mon 8 April (5 days) Apart from in exceptional circumstances, all work will be carried out during typical hours of operation, between the hours of 8am to 6pm. We are working with building Facilities Managers to ensure this essential work is carried out with sensitivity to key events and activities in your buildings, although some impact is inevitable. [Identified] I209960 - Fibre contractors found that there is a break in the fibre in the area around the Wyndhurst farm building. We are working to identify the route of the cable and possible location of the break. Once this is established we will communicate a repair plan.

Once the route of the cable and the location of the break has been established then a repair plan will be communicated. This is not expected to be completed before the bank holiday weekend. Currently no workaround available.
