Essential network maintenance: Brief interruptions to services between 5pm and 8pm on 19 August 2024

Description

On Monday, August 19, between 5 pm and 8 pm, essential network maintenance will take place to conduct a failover test following the recent reconfiguration of our core network. While every effort has been made to ensure there is minimal impact to services, we anticipate that during this change there will be two small interruptions to the network traffic (affecting both wired and wireless) when we remove and reconnect, and services may experience a very brief interruption. These interruptions will happen around 5.30 pm and 7.15 pm. These interruptions to the network will impact access to services hosted on campus and access from campus to online services, including some telephony. We are engaging with key service owners to help mitigate any impact. The network should recover without manual intervention, but IT staff will be on standby during the work to monitor key services and act if required. As always, with changes like this, the network will be classed as ‘at-risk’ for the duration of the work. T4 website content management system upgrade: 8th - 22nd May

Description

The University is upgrading its website content management system T4 (Terminalfour) to the latest version to make it more secure and improve functionality. We now have a confirmed two-week window of T4 downtime to allow migration of content to the new upgraded version: Wednesday 8 May to Tuesday 21 May 2024. During the downtime the live website will remain online, but T4 will not be accessible and you will not be able to add new content or make changes to any content. Other platforms are not affected and you can use them as normal: Blackboard SharePoint Social media Pure CampusPress (Bristol blogs) Job adverts Any pending or draft content you save in T4 before the downtime starts will be available to continue working on in the new version. You will not be able to publish anything during the downtime. The Digital Experience team will only support business-critical content updates during the downtime. If you have any business-critical content that must be published during this time, please contact web-editor@bristol.ac.uk

We are aware of widespread issues when attempting to use Eduroam and also accessing services via the VPN. Our teams are investigating this as a priority.
