[Identified] There is currently a problem with the Research Data Storage Facility (RDSF). Work is taking place to recover the service, but as some file systems may take longer then others so an exact time for a return to service cannot be identified. It is anticipated that all file systems will be recovered by Wednesday morning.

[Identified] We are still working to resolve the RDSF issues and hope that we may be able to restore access to some projects by the end of the day. We will continue to work to restore access to all projects as soon as possible. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused. BlueCrystal 3 and a number of Research clusters will be unavailable

Description

On Wednesday 26th July BlueCrystal 3 and a number of Research clusters will be unavailable for the day (exact times have not been confirmed) due to essential maintenance to the Data Centre infrastructure based in the Physics Tank Room. The downtime in service is due to enhancements to the electrical backup feeding these systems. We had hoped that we could avoid any downtime to services but recent investigations have highlighted issues that mean that is unavoidable. We need to complete this work as soon as possible to remove the risk of future power failures to the room and before UCAS application confirmation begins. We apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience this downtime will cause. Please contact the IT Services Desk if you have any questions regarding this work.

[Investigating] We are experiencing issues with writing to files to the RDSF this morning. We are working to resolve and will keep you updated. There will be a short interruption in access to the RDSF in the next 10 minutes whilst we seek to resolve the issue.

[Identified] A temporary power failure to the campus has resulted in some of the BlueCrystal nodes temporarily becoming unavailable. Performance will be limited until these can be checked and returned to service.

[Identified] Blue Crystal 3 is now fully operational. We are still working to restore service on Bluecrystal Phase 2. However, there have been some technical difficulties which have caused delays. We hope that Bluecrstal Phase 2 will be back in service early next week.

[Monitoring] BlueCrystal Phase 3 is providing a limited service. Phase 2 is currently shut down due to cooling issues and only the head nodes and storage are available on the departmental machines. The position is being closely monitored.
