At risk notification for essential network maintenance on Sunday 8 December

Description

As part of the Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (IMPact) work to upgrade our networks, between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 8 December, essential network maintenance will be taking place to ensure resilience of services. Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the planned maintenance goes without incident, there is a possibility that the change could impact all live services. Although there is never a convenient time to conduct this work, we've scheduled this against the Critical Dates Calendar to ensure that we are minimising impact on the University. Work on elements of the network infrastructure to improve and enhance the reliance of service will take place on Thursday 12 September starting at 6.00pm and complete at 2.00am on 13 September. This is part of a series of proposed work taking place over the summer. POSTPONED At risk notification: essential network change on Tuesday 2nd July 7am-9am

Description

Please note: This work will be rescheduled for another date ---------- The work is part of activity to establish a robust and resilient data centre infrastructure, this work is scheduled to link our onsite legacy data centres with our modern off-site data centres. This requires a change to our network configuration. This work supports the transformational IMPact Programme managed by IT Services, which aims to enhance our digital services through modern cloud-based, highly available and highly resilient systems. The work will take place between 7am and 9am on Tuesday 2nd July. Every effort has been made to test that the change goes without incident, but there is always a possibility of disruption to services. Services at risk include those hosted by the University. Please note that services hosted externally, such as Outlook and One Drive, would not be affected by this work in any way, except for services which rely on UOB Single-Sign-On. If you have any concerns about this work please contact the IT Service Desk, service-desk@bristol.ac.uk.

[Investigating] We are investigating a number of issues including, login problems with the Students Union website Access to journals within JSTOR Problems accessing reading lists within Blackboard.

[Resolved] On the evening of Friday 8th February, a problem occurred with the Shibboleth authentication service. The problem affected authentication to the following services: - Library Journals - Gym Membership - Visitor Parking - Student Union Website These issues were picked up at 7pm on Saturday 9th February and investigations took place. Action was taken to resolve the problem and all services were back by 10pm on 9th February.

In late July the certificate used by the Single Sign On (sso.bris.ac.uk) will be updated. Normal users will not be affected by this change.
